Digestion and Immunity

If you are providing your gut with nutrient-dense foods, your digestive health will soar with flying colors. Because of that, your immunity will reflect what your body is absorbing and running off of.  The water-soluble vitamin C and fat-soluble vitamin E, along with beta-carotene, are antioxidants thought to protect the body against the destructive effects of free radicals. Free radicals are highly chemically reactive atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired valence electrons, making it very unstable. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating one of their own electrons, ending the electron-“stealing” reaction, also known as free radical damage. The antioxidant nutrients themselves don’t become free radicals by donating an electron because they are stable in either form. They act as scavengers, helping to prevent cell and tissue damage that could lead to cellular damage and disease. Antioxidants have many benefits on one’s health and the best way to obtain these benefits is through raw, whole foods. A good way to know what foods are high in antioxidants is the color; vibrant colors, such as purple, blue, red, orange, and yellow. However, sometimes it is nice to have a little help, especially if it is difficult to acquire the antioxidant rich, whole foods. There are supplemental vitamins as well as supplemental systemic and digestive enzymes. Enzyme therapy is a very beneficial course of action for someone who is looking for a natural, effective alternative of obtaining those benefits. Vitamin E and beta-carotene, especially, have been shown to fight against chronic conditions, such as heart disease, cancer, and the like, along with many other benefits.
